Durango here we come!

All the mezcal news you need to know

Durango On Our Mind

First a quick note on this week’s tariffs announcement. While tariffs were imposed on virtually every country in the world by President Trump, Mexico (and Canada) were seemingly spared which may not matter much in the mid to long term if the tariffs trigger a worldwide trade war and/or recession.

Now on to some good news which we could all use to end the week

After a spectacular series of events in DC this past weekend, I have my sight set on the Agave Heritage Festival which begins next week, a slew of fun events around Mexico in a Bottle Chicago (get your tickets!) and our second annual Mexico in a Bottle Nombre de Dios, Durango event June 6th-9th.

Tickets are now on sale for some great experiential packages that are all about enjoying the incredible mezcal (and sotol!), food, people and landscape that makes Nombre de Dios so incredibly special. We are talking about a spectacular dinner under the stars, a sunrise hot air balloon, a tour of vinatas, an agave reforestation day and a closing party tour of mezcalerias in Durango. And in between all of these activities is Mexico in a Bottle which will once again take place on the beautiful Hotel Urajan de Luna grounds. I cannot express how much this event means to me and the vision of Mexico in a Bottle - all of the dots are connected, the land, the agave, the people, the mezcal. Honestly, there is nothing else like this and I can’t wait!

In the meantime, we’ll be bringing a little bit of Durango to our Chicago event with some soon to be announced events which will include an afternoon special tasting with a few producers from Durango and a night of Mezcal Lotería plus a mix of mezcals from Durango and a specially brewed beer from a local cerveceria! Other Chicago events include a Women in Spirits event on Saturday, April 26th, a blind tasting also on Saturday April 26th, a mezcal and tequila paired dinner and more - it is shaping up to be quite a weekend of meztravaganza.

Be sure to check out the recent profile piece on Kami Kenna, an opinion piece on who’s really making your mezcal, five women making killer mezcal, how to spend 72 hours in Mexico City like a local, some drinks you might like if you enjoy mezcal and some newly added events! All links below.

Finally, did you get punked by this year’s April Fool’s Day? So far no cease and desist letters from Tesla or Elon Musk like last year’s from the CRT for this Fool’s Day post.

Saludos,

As we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know.”
